Early Ass Ponys Re-release!

The Okra Years  (2005)

Ass Ponys will soon release The Okra Years (TOY) on the Shake It Records label.  TOY consists of the first two Ass Ponys albums, Mr. Superlove and Grim, re-mastered and packaged as a single unit.  The re-mastering effort is supposed to bring up some of the muddied vocals found on the original releases, and clean up the albums overall.  Allegedly, there are also some studio outtakes, live performances, and other not-previously-released stuff.  A couple of the original tunes may not appear in the re-release.  The package is also supposed to include some great art and pictures from the era.

Watch for it at Shake It Records!

TOY  Update

According to Darren at Shake It Records on February 11, 2005, the scope of The Okra Years has changed yet again.  Audio re-mastering is complete, but delays set in.  First, it was expanding from one to two disks.  Then, it was to assemble and layout photos and art; then, it was to create the liner notes.  The most recent change involves video, yes, video, and the release date remains in limbo.  Good things are worth the wait, and it seems The Okra Years keeps improving with the length of the wait.  Patience is a virtue, but darn, I'd love to see this project released at last.

Ass Ponys on Hiatus?

Could be.  At the December 3, 2004 Barrelhouse Brewing Company show in Cincinnati, Chuck Cleaver stated from stage that Ass Ponys were going to "woodshed" and work on making a new record.  A new record is good news!  Ass Ponys not playing live for a spell sucks.  It'll work out, though, we're sure.

Best wishes to Ass Ponys as they dig into their bag o' musical tricks and begin creation of a long-awaited new studio record!  Here's to 2005 being another "Year of the Pony!"

Woodshed Update

On February 12, 2005, Randy Cheek reported that the "woodshedding" goes well and that about a dozen new tunes are in the air.  Also, Ass Ponys are checking into a larger rehearsal location.
